Invasive Plant Removal

March 1 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

As a proud member of the Loudoun Invasive Removal Alliance (LIRA), LOTP is hosting an event to remove Japanese Honeysuckle from designated common areas. This invasive plant strangles our native trees. More information to follow.

Looks can be deceiving. Some plants growing in our community are killers. They might look pretty but they literally strangle native trees and shrubs which are crucial to support wildlife-think butterflies. Invasive species also invite non-native insects-think Spotted Lantern Fly.

In October 2024 Blue Ridge PRISM (Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management) identified at least 25 species growing in LOTP that are on the Virginia Invasive Species List. This does not include those planted by the builder or homeowners: Miscanthus, Nandina, Japanese Barberry, Burning Bush, Bradford Pear.

As part of a multifaceted plan to mitigate invasive species within our community, the LOTP Facilities and Grounds Committee is hosting a VOLUNTEER INVASIVE REMOVAL event.  Our goal is to address the Japanese Honeysuckle enveloping the trees in the Tree Preservation Area on Kingsport Drive.  Please join this effort. No experience needed. Click on the link below for details and registration.
